In the 2011 Census, there were 11,813 people in Penrith. Nearly half (47.3%) of occupied private dwellings were separate houses, 25.3% were semi-detached (row or terrace houses, townhouses etc.), 26.0% were flats, units or apartments and 0.1% were other dwellings. There are a number of new residential developments within and surrounding the suburb.
